This blog has to be one of the more difficult ones to write because my darling Dad recently passed away and I am still feeling raw with many emotions.
My Dad was a special man and he has left me with an amazing legacy of heart, commitment and community.
My father taught me many things but one that truly stands out for me is to contribute to your community. My parents have always been active members of their community and freely gave their time to help others. My community today is the breast cancer community and I do what I can to help. One of the many ways I help is to participate every year in the Mother’s Day Classic where all funds raised go towards breast cancer research.
I participate because I am a strong believer in research and although we have progressed greatly in early detection, better treatments and outcomes, the reality is many women are dying from Stage IV breast cancer and this needs to be addressed….and this is where I need your help. I am asking you to sponsor me so we may contribute towards a cure. I am one of the lucky ones. I recently celebrated eight years since I was diagnosed and now in good health. If you follow Red Fern Lingerie on social media, you would have seen a photo of a heritage Singer sewing machine. The Singer belonged to my father who was a tailor by trade. He trained in an era where pride, artesian quality and heart was poured into every garment sewn. My Dad loved that I called the brand Red Fern (“never forget where you came from”). The Singer has now come to represent so much more. It no longer is a sewing machine. The Singer has become a symbol of my Dad and his hard work to give his family a better life; and it now represents my hard work, dedication and commitment to give a new choice in lingerie for my sister survivors.
I also believe that my Dad has been working some magic from up above. There are exciting collaborations happening and new stockists coming on board. Keep an eye out on social media where the details will be revealed soon.
